Looking for answers as to why reducing the number of beds at Country Manor Adult Home did not result in any savings, county legislators are calling for an evaluation of the past year’s staffing data.
The Human Resources Committee will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. to discuss the impact of staffing costs on the adult care facility’s budget.
Despite cutting the county’s cost to operate Country Manor next year to $536, 254, compared to a prior estimate of over $554,000, during a Finance Committee meeting Friday, the cost is still up from over $470,000 in 2009, officials said.
Legislators Patrick Russell (R-District 15) and Helen Rose (D-District 2) both questioned why a decision last year to cut beds at the adult care facility from 60 to 40 did not result in savings.
Nearly 70 percent of the facility’s over $1.8 million budget is directly attributed to payroll. And while the number of residents recently dropped to its lowest level at 44, legislators said they were unclear as to the impact on staffing  costs.
The 2010 budget estimate does reflect a reduction, from $160,000 to $130,000, in part-time hours, but there are no reductions in full time staff, county Administrator James Wallace said.
Wallace said he will provide legislators with staffing cost data from January through October of this year to allow for a better understanding of any changes.
