A 21-year-old Dolgeville man has been charged with assaulting his father and trying to choke a village police officer during a domestic incident last weekend, police said.
Brandon Burdick, of Schuyler Street, was charged Friday with second-degree and third-degree assault, as well as resisting arrest, and sent to the Herkimer County jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, police said.
Police responded to 16 Schuyler St. at about 3:15 a.m. on Dec. 1 after Burdick allegedly injured his father by hitting him several times, police said.
While the officer was attempting to take Burdick into custody, Burdick then struck the officer several times in the head and face and tried to choke the officer, police said. The officer, however, was able to take Burdick into custody after a brief struggle.
The officer was transported to Little Falls Hospital, where he was evaluated for head, facial and back pain before being released, police said.
