Frankfort, N.Y. —
The Frankfort-Schuyler school board recognized members of the school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter who placed in a recent district competition during Tuesday’s board meeting.
The board also heard FBLA member Gianni DiSano present the speech that earned him first place in public speaking and the opportunity to represent Frankfort-Schuyler at the New York State Leadership Conference on April 10 in Rochester.
FBLA adviser Renee Trojnar added the winner of that competition will go to Anaheim, Calif., for the national contest.
DiSano called for his listeners to “challenge ourselves to make positive changes in the world around us.” He talked about the school’s involvement in Rachel’s Challenge and how the movement’s principles can be applied to the business world. The movement is named for Rachel Joy Scott and uses statements from her diary to inspire students to make a positive difference for those around them.
“Start a chain reaction,” DiSano quoted.
Other students who placed in the competition included:
Business Calculations (Grades 9-10): Army Kattato, third place; and Vincent Cuda, fourth place.
Business Communications (Grades 11-12): Hallie Serriani, fourth place; and Ryan Smith, fifth place.
Business Ownership and Marketing (Grades 11-12): Amber Mathews, second place.
Career and Financial Management (Grades 11-12): Katlyn Walawender, second place; and Steven Lanter, fourth place.
Computer Applications (written): Zachary Perri, fourth place.
Cyber Security (Grades 9-10): Jon Perri, third place; and John Trojnar, fourth place.
FBLA Principles and Procedures (Grades 9-10): Patrick Doolen, third place; and Marissa Miller, fourth place.
FBLA Principles and Procedures (Grades 11-12): Morgan Reed, fourth place.
Introduction to Business Communications (Grades 9-10): Maggie Burke, fifth place.
Introduction to Technology Concepts: John Trojnar, fifth place.
Sports Management (Grades 9-10): Mark Spina, first place; and Nick Spina, second place.
Word Processing I – written (Grades 9-10): Rayna Orsino, second place; and Amanda Fridley, fourth place.
Word Processing II – production (Grades 11-12): Katie Raab, first place; Olivia Tamburro, third place; and Julia Zito, fourth place.
Friends of Rachel
The board also heard and viewed a presentation about the Friends of Rachel club’s trip to Folts Homes to take part in activities with the residents. Rebecca Gillette, a member of the club, presented a visual presentation put to music showing scenes from the event. The students worked on valentines and cookies with the residents, sang and spent time with them. Gillette said she is interested in the photography and film field and spent the time taking photos for a presentation.
“They loved that we spent time and talked with them,” she said.
School Superintendent Robert Reina read three letters he had received praising the students, saying they were “respectful and attentive” and that Folts and the residents would love to have them come again.
Reina also reported the district’s girls’ volleyball, girls’ bowling, girls’ basketball and boys’ basketball teams had earned New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar Athlete Team Awards.
