The Herkimer/Mohawk Food Pantry got a boost from the members of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans who live in Herkimer County.
The North Central New York Chapter project provided more than $600 in food for the pantry.
Chapter member from Ilion, Steve Crane, headed up the effort.
“We’re happy to help out the food pantry,” Crane said. “With the cost of everything skyrocketing it’s important to help the local pantries.”
Members in Herkimer County that are a part of Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are at United Lutheran Presbyterian Parish in Dolgeville, Christ and Holy Trinity in Little Falls and Trinity Lutheran in Herkimer.
Bill Paslak is the coordinator for the Herkimer/Mohawk Food Pantry, which is located in the basement of Folts Homes. He says he wants to thank everyone who donates to the pantry.
“I want to thank the community churches and community in general for their support and for all the donations both monetary and food donations,” Paslak said.
Even with the price of food increasing, Paslak said that the Herkimer/Mohawk Food Pantry remains steady as far as the amount of people they assist each month.
For the month of April, the pantry helped 136 households. That included 103 children, 239 adults, 22 elderly and 364 individuals for a total of 5,460 meals.
“That’s about steady for us with some months having a few more and some months having a few less,” Paslak said.
