A 29-year-old man gave in to police pressure Tuesday, agreeing to exit his residence peacefully after a nearly five-hour standoff with troopers investigating a domestic violence complaint in the Homestead Mobile Home Park, according to state police.
Troopers responded after a neighbor reported seeing the man, Michael Grogan, chase his girlfriend, Shannon Shorer, 26, through the mobile home park, on Circle Drive off state Route 5S, and then back into his residence, state police said.
Grogan denied troopers access to the mobile home and both he and Shorer refused to leave the residence, denying a domestic incident occurred, according to police reports.
Capt. Frank Coots, of the Marcy state police barracks, said hostage negotiators and the SWAT team were requested, as details of the situation remained unclear. Troopers at the scene wanted to be prepared to respond to a variety of scenarios, he added.
The neighbors in the adjoining mobile homes were also evacuated, Coots said.
Negotiators made contact and Shorer came out of the residence at just before 11 a.m., Coots said
She still denied any criminal act had occurred, according to police reports.
Grogan continued to refuse police access and could be seen talking to negotiators through a window in the mobile home.
Several neighbors had gathered across the field in the half-circle mobile home park and troopers asked them to return to their homes.
Grogan finally agreed to exit the residence at just before 1 p.m., Coots said.
Troopers did not find any firearms in the residence, and neither Grogan or Shorer were taken into custody, according to Coots.
If there are no charges related to the domestic complaint, Coots said it is likely no charges would be brought against either person. No threats were made against police, no weapons were involved, and the SWAT team did not need to be utilized, he added.
“He just didn’t want to come out,” Coots said.
