A water main break in the village of Frankfort forced Frankfort-Schuyler school officials to close schools on Tuesday.
Department of Public Works officials report they received a call around 10:30 p.m. Monday reporting significant water pressure loss throughout the village. While investigating the wells that provide much of the village with its water, the DPW discovered a 10-foot split in one of the 12-inch main transmission pipes that feeds the water distribution system. Officials said the damaged section of pipe has been replaced and water pressure restored.
A boil water ban remains in effect until the water can be tested by the health department to determine that it is safe to drink.
Schools were scheduled to reopen today (Wednesday) and the school is well stocked with bottled drinking water for students and staff until the boil water ban is lifted.
