A town clerk in Lewis County faces charges following the completion of an investigation by the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Comptroller’s Office into the misapplication of state funds intended for the Black River Watershed Project.

Town of Greig clerk and tax collector Karin Fayle, 65, was charged Tuesday with official misconduct, a class “A” misdemeanor, and was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Greig Court at a later date for further court action. The investigation revealed that on July 15, 2011, a check in the amount of $17,364.63 was diverted from the watershed project to cover a known shortage in the town’s property tax account.
