Brendan Marrocco, the first soldier to survive losing all four limbs. has received a double arm transplant, the Associated Press reports. It is the seventh operation of its type performed in the U.S.

Marrocco received both limbs and bone marrow from a single donor as part of a strategy to reduce the risk of the limbs being rejected by Marrocco's body.

Marrocco and his surgeon have planned a press conference for Tuesday to discuss the surgery.

"This doesn't mean that I'm taking leave from you. ... I still will be able to meet many of you. I am deeply thankful for the faith that you've had in me ... in all these years that I've been able to be queen." - Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, who announced to day in a televised speech that she will be abdicating the throne. Her son, Prince Willem-Alexander, will take her place as monarch.
