Assemblyman Marc Butler, R - Newport, on Friday announced he’d be participating in a Second Amendment rally and lobby day planned for Thursday, Feb. 28.
The event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Albany, will feature keynote speaker National Rifle Association President David Keene.
The events are as follows:
• Registration and lobbying time: 9 to 11:50 a.m. Registration will take place at the table on the Concourse Level of the office building.
• Rally on West Capitol Lawn: noon.
Attendees will have the opportunity to visit Butler in Legislative Office Building Room No. 318 as well as lobby other legislators about the state Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act of 2013. The act includes a stricter definition of assault weapons and bans magazines that hold more than seven rounds. One individual even suggested splitting the state in two to avoid such legislation.
Other participants include officials from the state Rifle and Pistol Association, the Shooters Committee on Political Education and sportsmen advocacy groups, among others.
