Mr. Bernard “Ward” Hecox, 81, of 550 E. Gansevoort Street, a lifelong Little Falls resident, entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 3, 2010, in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Utica. At the time of his passing, he had the love and support of his family at his side.
He was born on May 31, 1928, in Little Falls, son of the late Bernard James and Margaret (Ward) Hecox, and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. He furthered his education, graduating from SUNY Cortland. In his younger years and throughout his life, Ward excelled in sports. He was an accomplished athlete. On July 12, 1952, he was united in marriage with Marlyn J. Brewer in St. Mary’s Church, Little Falls. Mr. Hecox was last employed with Whitesboro Central School, retiring as a physical education teacher, and also coached athletic teams at Whitesboro. He was formerly employed with Stratford-Oppenheim Schools and Dolgeville Central School. Mr. Hecox was a revered and respected member of AA. He loved golfing and held membership with Little Falls Municipal Golf Course where he enjoyed the camaraderie of many friends. He was a devoted member of Holy Family Parish, Little Falls.
Survivors include his wife, Marlyn; his children, Cynthia Wilson and husband, Jerry, of Annandale, VA, Andrea Littlejohn and William Ginther, of Fairport, NY, and Bernard S. Hecox and wife, Kim, of Plattsburgh, NY; his grandchildren, Jessie Wilson, Meghan Hecox and Caitlyn Hecox; sisters, Sophia Hecox Hooks and Bernadette Hecox; in-laws, Sam and Nadine Marchese; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hildegarde Hecox.
Visitation at Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe St., Little Falls, will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. Mr. Hecox’s funeral will commence at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, March 8, from the chapel of the funeral home where a transfer prayer will be held and at 11 a.m. from Holy Family Parish, Little Falls, where his Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, Pastor. Procession will follow to St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider memorial offerings to Holy Family Parish or Little Falls Public Library; envelopes will be available at the funeral parlor.
