Mr. Rocco J. “Rock” Mancini, age 65, of Frankfort, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2012, at his home.
Born in Utica on Dec. 4, 1946, Rocco was the son of the late, Carlo and Angeline (Collea) Mancini. He was raised and educated in local schools attending T.R. Proctor High School and Mohawk Valley Community College. Mr. Mancini was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. On Dec. 14, 1974, he was wed to the former D. Candice “Candy” Tucker. The couple shared in a joyous union of over 37 years. Mr. Mancini held a position with the Carpenters Union, Local No. 120, retiring after over 37 years of service. Rock was an avid hunter and fisherman, he also enjoyed riding his snowmobile in the winter months and playing cards. A social person, Rock enjoyed talking and laughing with his friends. He had a joke for any occasion. He loved to make calls to his friends and family so he could tell a joke. Rock wanted to bring laughter to everyone. He had a special place in his heart for animals. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather “Poppi.” Rock dedicated his life to making things better for his family.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Candy of Frankfort; three daughters and a son-in-law, Shelly and Richard Esposito of Plattsburgh, Kristina Mancini of Frankfort, and Lori Peryer of Plattsburgh; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy C. and Amy T. Mancini of Frankfort; eight grandchildren, Izabella Esposito, CJ Mancini, Andrew Peryer, Allison Peryer, Azlin Peryer, Hillary Mancini, Meagan Mancini and Timothy G. Mancini; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Anthony and Theresa Scalzo of New Hartford, and Ralph and Lyda Scalzo of Sherburne. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and in-laws, Sharon Tucker of Mohawk, and Lori LeClair of Ilion. He also leaves his canine companions, three shih tzus, Junior, Max and Cheyne, and a yellow lab, Matty Kay. Rock’s family is comforted knowing he is with his longtime canine companion Pepper.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be considered to the Humane Association of Central New York. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St., Sauquoit. Mr. Mancini’s funeral will take place at 5 p.m. immediately following visitation, at the funeral home.
