Jean R. Davenport, 71, of Military Road, passed away on March 2, 2010, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Tina and Chuck Sternberg, with her loving family at her side.
Mrs. Davenport was born on January 15, 1939, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Leon and Mabel (Stanley) Edwards. She graduated from West Canada Valley Central School with the Class of 1957. On May 25, 1957, Jean was united in marriage with Robert W. Davenport at the Newport United Methodist Church. In earlier years, she was employed at the former Newport Pharmacy and at the snack bar at Nichols, formerly of Herkimer. Bob preceded her in death on April 18, 1988. Jean was of the Methodist faith and enjoyed cooking and baking. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister, and cherished the times spent with all her family.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Scott Smith and Tina and Chuck Sternberg, all of Norway; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Tracey Davenport, of Herkimer; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Donald Edwards, of Schuyler, Richard and Mary Edwards, of Herkimer, and Gordon and Catherine Edwards, of Norway; two sisters, Betty Clark and Alice Smith, both of Norway; ten grandchildren, Wayne, Shanna, Courtney, Samantha, Kristen, Joshua, Michael, Heather, Erika and Bobby; four great-grandchildren, Trinity, Laci, Alanna and Morgan; and many nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Jean’s wishes, a graveside memorial service will be held at the Hurricane Cemetery, Town of Norway, in the spring. The Rev. Dwayne A. Durand, Pastor of the Kuyahoora Community Church, will officiate. There are no calling hours.
