Donald J. Entwistle, Sr., age 84, a lifelong Herkimer-Mohawk resident, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012, at Valley Health Services, with the love and support of his family.
Born in Herkimer on Oct. 3, 1928, Don was the son of the late Ernest and Garnetta (McGraw) Entwistle. He was educated in Herkimer schools and on Oct. 19, 1950, he entered into the United States Army, serving during World War II, and was honorably discharged on Oct. 8, 1952, holding the rank of corporal. On Sept. 24, 1960, he married Angelina DeSantis in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Utica. At the time of his passing, they were married 52 years in a loving, sharing and committed relationship. Don was employed for many years for the County of Herkimer as their printer and also worked with Sperry Rand Univac in Utica.
His love for his children and grandchildren was steadfast, loyal and unconditional. Don derived great joy and affectionate companionship from his family. In his spare time, he enjoyed garage sales, watching western movies on television and taking care of his yard and garden.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Angelina, of Mohawk; his daughters, Vita Klock, of Ilion, Lisa Hecox and husband, Dale, of Schenectady, and Stacey Sementilli and husband, John, of Herkimer; his sons, Scott Entwistle, of Mohawk, Barry Entwistle, of Guilderland, Keith Entwistle, of California, and Donald Entwistle, Jr., and wife, Tammy, of Binghamton; his cherished grandchildren, Angela, Krista and Kenneth Klock, Kaleigh Blando and husband, Jon, Amanda and Zachary Hecox, John Sementilli, and Sierra and Chase Entwistle; a great-grandson, Jaedon Savage; a brother, Robert Entwistle and wife, Joyce, of Mohawk; his sisters, Shirley Edick and Sandy Marusic, both of Herkimer; his in-laws, Marie Entwistle, of Herkimer, and Patrick DeSantis, of Utica; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Ernest, Joe, Fran and Raymond Entwistle, and his sisters, Dorothy “Dot” France and Betty Holynski.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 4309 Acme Rd., Ilion (town of Frankfort) (894-8000), on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. Don’s funeral will commence on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home, where prayers will be offered, and at 11 a.m. from Blessed Sacrament Church, 54 E. Main St., Mohawk, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham, sacramental minister, assisted by Sister Mary Jo Tallman, parish life director. Procession will then follow to Calvary Cemetery, German Street, Herkimer, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors.
