Eva R. MacLeod, 89, a former resident of Herkimer, died peacefully on Nov. 15, 2012, in Falmouth, Maine. Her daughter and son-in-law were at her side. She had resided with her daughter, Maureen Hale, for over 10 years.
Eva was born in Stockholm on Feb. 1, 1923, the daughter of Marion and Joseph Regan. A graduate of Potsdam State College, she taught at Bills Elementary School in Herkimer. She married Robert D. MacLeod on June 29, 1946, in Potsdam. For years, Eva was a member of St. Francis de Sales Parish in Herkimer and also served as a board member of the Mohawk Homestead in Mohawk. She later attended St. Mary’s the Virgin in Falmouth, Maine, and was a member of the outreach committee. Eva enjoyed being a wife, mother, teacher and friend. She lived her life with grace, dignity and kindness and was a teacher of life’s lessons to the end.
Eva was predeceased by her husband, Robert, of 34 years. She is survived by her five children, Catherine Bruner, of Newport News, Va., Robert W. MacLeod, of Washington, D.C., Maureen (MacLeod) and John Hale, of Falmouth, Maine, Thomas MacLeod and his friend, Marie Wood, of North Falmouth, Mass., and Mary Ellen Hart and her friend, Bob Labella, of Herkimer. In addition, she is survived by three granddaughters and their spouses, Michelle Bruner, Rebecca (Hart) and Michael Goldberg and Gretchen (Bruner) and John Hamman; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Hamman and Ryan and Julia Goldberg.
The family would like to give special thanks to the following for their exceptional care and kindness, John Hale; Auntie Marion; Joe and the staff of Falmouth Physical Therapy; Michelle, Sonje, Bill, Judy and the CNAs of Beacon Hospice; Lisa; Kathleen; and her wonderful friends and neighbors.
A memorial service was held at her home in Falmouth, Maine. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Herkimer, in the spring of 2013. Arrangements were made by A.T. Hutchins Funeral and Cremation Services in Portland, Maine.
