Mr. Scott W. Streeter, 47, of 408 Reese Rd., passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, March 3, 2013, from injuries sustained in a snowmobile accident in the town of Ohio.
Scott was born in New Hartford on Jan. 10, 1966, the son of William and Judy Moreau Streeter. He attended Frankfort schools and graduated from Frankfort-Schuyler High School with the class of 1984. After high school, he served with the U.S. Navy for four years, attaining the rank of AT3 prior to his honorable discharge. Scott was married to Carla Girantino on Nov. 16, 1990, in St. Mary’s Church. He was currently employed as a corrections officer at Mohawk Corrections, Rome, where he had worked since 1989. He was a communicant of Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church and a member of the Snow Drifters and the NYSCOBA.
Aside from Scott’s commitment to family as evidenced in his many contributions as a father, husband, proud new grandfather, son, son-in-law, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Scott was an avid outdoor enthusiast. Scott took the lead from his maternal grandfather, Emil Moreau, and was a lifelong hunter and fisherman who continued that tradition and looked forward to passing his knowledge and skills on to others. Scott took great pride in discussing his many excursions in detail and had photos to back up his stories. Scott was an outstanding athlete, expanding from his Pop Warner Football and Little League Baseball days through high school football, including his role in bringing the 1983 New York State Class C Section III Football Championship to his alma mater FSCS. Scott continued his love of sports and the outdoors into his adult years, playing racquetball, enjoying riding his four-wheeler in the summer months and snowmobiling in the winter.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Carla Streeter; two daughters, Kali Marie Streeter and Ashlee Rose Streeter and Scott’s future son-in-law, Hank Penree, and his cherished granddaughter, Ava Rose Penree, all at home; his father and step-mother, William and Mary Kay Streeter, Sr., of Ilion; his mother and step-father, Judy and Douglas Haman, Sr., of West Frankfort; his mother-in-law, Carol Girantino, of Frankfort; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Emil Streeter and his wife, Sharon, of W. Frankfort, Douglas Haman, Jr., of W. Frankfort, and William Streeter, Jr., and his wife, Lisa, of Marcy; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Kim Barnes, of Little Falls, Karen Wellenstein, of Ilion, Terri and Steve Gauthier, of Rochester, Kim and John Borek, of Concorde, NC, and Dr. Renee Wellenstein and Dr. Comron Ostovar, of Cooperstown; his in-laws, Deana and Eric Grippe, of Frankfort; his godfather, Joseph Talerico; close and cherished friends, Larry Ciaccia, Phil Beck, Bernie Adorino, Francis “Cuz” Congelo and John Wallace; his beloved canines, Dozer Boy and Molly; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father-in-law, Eugene Girantino, and his best friend and beloved canine, Cody.
His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. from the V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc., 203 Second Ave., Frankfort, and at 11 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Apostles Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Salerno. Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 6, from 4 to 8 p.m. at V.J. Iocovozzi Funeral Home, Inc.
Scott’s family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Poland Volunteer Fire Department, Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance, Marty Ciaccia and the New York State Police, Poland barracks, for their actions of kindness and assistance during this difficult time.
