Mr. Anthony Cugliandro, 89, of 3 Sunset Ave., passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, in his home, with his family by his side.

He was born in Herkimer on January 27, 1923, the son of the late Antonio and Maria Theresa Vona Cugliandro, and he attended Herkimer schools. He served with the US Army during World War II. Following his military service, Tony returned to school and graduated from Herkimer High School with the class of 1946. He was married to Theresa M. Scalise on November 8, 1947, in St. Anthony's Church, Herkimer, by the Rev. Gustav Purficato. Anthony was, at one time, employed as a meat cutter for Loblaws, Herkimer, and later as the manager for Chicago Market, Utica, until his retirement in 1987. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church and a former member of St. Joseph's Church Holy Name Society, UFCW Local 1 and served as Scout Master for the BSA. Tony loved to work with wood, hunt, fish, golf, bowl and camp. His greatest love was being with his family. He was an attendant for the Iocovozzi Funeral Homes for many years.

Anthony is survived by his beloved wife, Theresa M "Terry" Cugliandro; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Agnes Cugliandro, of Herkimer; three grandchildren, Kelley Cugliandro, Kimberly Cugliandro and Marie Elizabeth Cugliandro; his aunt, Eleanor Scalise, of Herkimer; one sister-in-law, Marie Scalise, of Herkimer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three brothers, John Cugliandro in 1943, Angelo Cugliandro in 1984, and Dominic Cugliandro in 1991, and three sisters, Catherine Crisino in 1980, Violet Cugliandro in 2007, and Clara Cugliandro in 2007.

His funeral will be held Thursday morning at 11:30 from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, and at 12:00 noon in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday (today), January 2, from 4-7 PM at Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home.

Tony's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice for the wonderful care and kindness shown to him during his illness and passing.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tony's memory may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care, 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, NY 13413. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
