Lewis Case, 86, entered into eternal rest on Dec. 31, 2012, at the Folts Homes in Herkimer.
Lewis was born on Feb. 20, 1926, in the town of Frankfort, to Clara (Hubbell) Case and Earl Case. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Mohawk High School, class of 1944.
“Lewie,” as he was affectionately known, had a varied and colorful life. He was employed for several years by P.J. Watkins as a horse and machinery dealer and had many adventures as he traveled around Central New York. He was also employed by O.W. Hubbell, and went to work for Remington Arms in 1963 as a polisher, retiring in 1988. Lewie married the former Elsie Parmon on Nov. 24, 1957, at the Herkimer Reformed Church.
Lewie enjoyed small engine repair and serviced dozens of lawnmowers for family and friends upon his retirement. He loved taking rides, reading, watching TV, cooking, sewing and especially loved visiting with people. He also loved writing short stories and had several published in local papers and magazines.
Lewie is survived by his daughter, Rachael; his son, Jonathan and his wife, Miriam; his granddaughter, Carolyn; many beloved relatives and friends; and his constant companion, his cat, “George Bush.” He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie; his parents; his sister, Mildred Day; two brothers, Charles and George Case; and several other family members.
Lewie was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Herkimer and had an unwavering faith in God. He also taught Sunday school for 40 years at Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church in Herkimer.
There are no public calling hours, but a memorial service will be held in the spring at the discretion of the family. The family would like to thank everyone for their love and support during Lewie’s long illness, and especially thanks the staff of Folts Homes for their excellent care.
