Wayne Phillip Redmond, 78, of 250 E. Clark St., Ilion, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, in St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, New Hartford, after suffering a fall at his residence on Monday, Jan. 9, 2012.
He was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Canton, the son of Charles and Verdiss Megin Redmond. On July 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to the former Pearl W. Shaw. He was a retired U.S. Air Force veteran of 20 years, serving in the Korean War, and was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was also employed as a forklift operator for Union Fork & Lift in Frankfort.
Surviving are his wife, Pearl; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne P. and Linda Redmond, Jr., of Baldwinsville, and Steven and Brooke Redmond, of Lee Center; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy Jo and Donald Smith, of Canastota; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Cindy Morris, in 2006.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 920 in Ilion and was a life member of VFW Post No. 502 in Frankfort.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the fifth floor of St. Luke’s for their wonderful and dedicated care.
A family gathering celebrating the life of Wayne will be held on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, from noon to 4 p.m. at Mohawk American Legion Post No. 25.
Contributions in memory of Wayne may be made to VFW Post No. 502.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Coolican-McSweeney Funeral Home, 322 Washington Ave., Oneida.
