Miss Madeleine A. Sabine, 77, formerly of Galinski Apartments, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, in Valley Health Services.
She was born in London, England, on July 28, 1934, the daughter of the late Albert and May Beatrice Sabine. Madeleine attended schools in London and, as a young woman, served as an air raid warden during World War II. Shortly after the war, the family relocated to the United States, and she graduated from Richfield Springs High School with the class of 1953. She later attended and graduated from the Utica School of Commerce. Madeleine was employed in the laundry department for Folts Home, Herkimer, for many years, until her retirement in 1989. She was of the Episcopal faith.
Madeleine is survived by her niece, Patricia Pansa, of Utica, and great-nieces and nephews, Briana Pansa, of Mohawk, Chris Platt and his wife, Melissa, of Utica, and Lisa and her husband, Joseph Nimey, of New Hartford. She was predeceased by one sister, Vera M. Pansa, on Aug. 11, 2003, and her nephew, Emil Pansa, on Feb. 20, 2004.
Her funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 p.m. in Christ Episcopal Church, North Main Street, Herkimer, where a Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated by Father Paul Bailey. Spring interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be no public calling hours.
Her funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer.
