Mary (Drumbor) Corrigan, 84, passed away unexpectedly in her home in Newport on March 5, 2010.
Mary was born in Weatherly, Pennsylvania, on October 15, 1925, a daughter of the late William and Arletta (Eroh) Drumbor. She married her childhood sweetheart, Eugene J. Corrigan, Sr., in 1946. Mary attended Newark College of Engineering to pursue a degree in Chemistry. She and her husband moved to Upstate New York shortly after and eventually made Newport their home. Mary retired after working 22 years as a chemist at Indium Corporation in Utica, where she developed procedures for analyzing metals. She established the first lab at Indium in their original Lincoln Ave. location and was very proud of the work she did there. Her husband, Gene, preceded her in death on August 2, 1990.
Mary is survived by her son, Eugene and his wife, Christine; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan and his fiancée, Christy, Hilary and her husband, Michael Kunizaki, and Patrick; her great-grandchildren, Clarissa Kunizaki and Andrew Corrigan; her sister, Harriet Lithkousky; her brother-in-law, John and his wife, Helene; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Anna and Ruth; her brother, William; and her brothers-in-law, Bernie Lithkousky and Paul Corrigan.
Mary lived her life by the simple rule, “Always do unto others as you would have others do unto you”. She was a kind and nurturing person until her very last day. She always put others before herself. Living in the country and watching wildlife from her window brought her great peace. Her family was a very important part of her life. She enjoyed her independence and continually amazed her family with the tasks she would set out to do. There was hardly anything she could not accomplish. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family. There will always be a place in our hearts that only Grammie can fill.
