Virgil B. Price, 91, formerly of 35 Wilson St., Ilion, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2010, at the home of his son in Indianapolis.

Virgil was born on July 22, 1918, in Little Falls, the son of the late Virgil and Suzanne (Troken) Price. He was educated in Mohawk schools. On March 9, 1939, he was united in marriage to the former Dora Jane Bass. Virgil was a WW II veteran, serving with the US Marines on Iwo Jima. Virgil was employed as an assembler at Remington Arms, retiring in 1972.

Virgil was a member of the Valley Baptist Church and loved gardening and woodworking.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 72 years, Jane; his sons, Steve and his wife, Cathy, of Indianapolis, and Thomas and his wife, Carol, of West Winfield; a daughter, Janet and her husband, Melvin Darling, of Ilion; his sisters, Florence Hext, of Schuyler Lake, and Shirley and her husband, Ed Bouchard, of Stewarts Landing; a daughter-in-law, Eileen Price, of Odessa, NY, and a son-in-law, Raymond Ludwig, of Cayuga, NY; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased his sons, Gary and Timothy; a daughter, Dawn Ludwig; his sisters, Claire Anderson and Betty Lawton; and a brother, George.

Funeral services for Virgil will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., in Ilion. Rev. Jerry Scott will officiate. Interment will take place in the spring at Oak Hill Cemetery in Herkimer. Friends may call from 3-5 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
