Donna C. Okusko, 91, formerly of 57 Newton Street, Ilion, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Woodgate House at the Masonic Home, Utica.

She was born April 25, 1919, in Mohawk, NY, the daughter of the late Martin and Florence (Ford) Snedeker, and received her education in the Ilion Central School. On February 18, 1939, she married Charles E. Okusko, Sr., in Annunciation Church, Ilion; he passed away May 28, 1978. At one time, Donna and Chuck ran the Drive-In Mobil Home Sales in Schuyler. Donna enjoyed arts and crafts, including ceramics, which she taught at Adult Education, and quilt making, where she made quilts for her children and grandchildren which they will cherish for years.

She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, a former member of Col. Marius Willet Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Daughters of Foundries and Patriots of America.

Donna is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Charles (Chuck) and Carol Okusko, of Herkimer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandy and Len Hendrix, of Ilion, and Denise and Mark Dodge, of Columbia, SC; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James (Ed) and Elizabeth Snedeker, of Ilion, and Guy Snedeker, of Ilion; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mary Frances and Al Aesch, of Johnstown, Barbara and Bruce Windecker, of Fairfield, Carolyn Kennedy, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, and Eileen Loomis, of Poland, NY; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Snedeker, of  MA; and seven grandchildren, Scott and Geri Hendrix, Lynne and Richard Roberts, Ashley Hendrix, Alyssa and Robert Harry, Adrianne Dodge, Arron Dodge and Rebecca  Cotto. She also leaves eight great-grandchildren. Donna also leaves a special friend, Barbara Clair, of Glenn Field, NY. She was predeceased by her sisters, Bertha Sokoloski, Agnes Hageman and Gertrude Salsburg, and her brothers, Richard Snedeker, Robert Snedeker and Raymond Snedeker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday, July 22, 2010, at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Annunciation, Ilion, with the Very Reverend Anthony Barratt officiating, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Friends may call on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, from 4:00-8:00 PM at the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego Street, Ilion.

Friends are asked to consider memorials to the Resident Fund at the Mohawk Homestead, 62 East Main Street, Mohawk, NY 13407, in Donna’s memory; envelopes are available at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Mohawk Homestead and the Masonic Home, Woodgate House in the Adirondacks, for all their care and compassion give to Donna during her stay and illness.
