Raymond H. Ackley, 78, of Dairy Hill Road, Newport, died unexpectedly on May 5, 2008, at his home.
Ray was born on the homestead on Dairy Hill Road on October 22, 1929, a son of the late Harvey and Grace (Pardee) Ackley.  He received his education in local country schools and was united in marriage with the former Patricia Miller.  Mrs. Ackley preceded him in death in 1978.  Until his retirement, Ray operated the family farm in Norway that was established by his grandparents.  He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed the time he spent hunting and fishing.  
Survivors include his son, Jack Ackley and his wife, Lisa, of Norway; two daughters, Grace Ackley of Mohawk and Nancy Agne and her husband, Ross Jr., of Schuyler; two grandchildren, Antonio Canales of Fla. and Rachel Ray Agne of Schuyler; one sister, Evelyn Chmielewski of Salisbury Center; one brother, Harold Ackley, a resident of Folts Homes, Herkimer;  and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Edith Humphrey and a brother, Arthur.
Funeral services will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. David Dunbar, pastor of the Kuyahoora Methodist Parish, officiating.  Interment will follow in Salisbury Rural Cemetery.
