Ralph T. Russell passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Utica on May 7, 2008 with Christina, his wife of almost 70 years, at his side.
He was born July 11, 1918, in Binghamton, the son of the late Warren Earl and Brena (Moores) Russell, and attended Binghamton schools. Ralph was a World War II veteran having served as a machinists mate in the United States Navy. He attended Stetson University before entering the Navy and finished his B.S. and attained his M.S. at Syracuse University after his military service. He received his PhD. in microbiology from Syracuse University where he subsequently became an associate professor. He later worked for the FDA and the U.S. Department of Public Health before returning to Syracuse University Research Corporation as manager of its Life Sciences Division.
He is survived by his wife Christina Tatom Russell, his son James M. Russell of Frankfort, his son Richard T. Russell of Washington, three grandchildren, Michael J. Russell, Blake T. Russell and Nicole W. Russell and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Clarence, Bryant and Elizabeth Russell.
In keeping with Mr. Russell’s wishes, services and interment will be private and will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Sharma, the staffs of Claxton Manor and the Folts Adult Homes, the Masonic Care Community and St. Elizabeth Hospital for their kind care and concern.
