Philo B. Baker, 96, formerly of 10 Fourth St. in Ilion, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010, in Unity Hospital in Greece.

Philo was born on February 28, 1914, in Ilion, the son of the late Robert and Kate M. (Barse) Baker. He was educated in Ilion schools and on November 22, 1941, he married the former Jean Morton in Miriam, KS. Jean passed away on May 26, 2006.

Philo served his country during WW II, serving in the US Army. Following his military service, Philo was employed as a Field Technician for American Totalisator Co. in Towson, MD, retiring in 1979.

Philo was a member of the St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Ilion and the Ilion Lodge #591 F&AM.

Philo is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lois and Frank Austin, of Rochester; two grandchildren, David D. Baker-Austin and Matthew M. Baker-Austin; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Baker-Austin; and a great-granddaughter, Faith Ann Baker-Austin. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean L. Baker, and a sister, Mary E. Baker.

Funeral services for Philo will be at a time and date to be announced, with interment in the Armory Hill Cemetery in Ilion. In keeping with Philo’s wishes, there are no calling hours.
