August J. "Augie" Polczynski, 72, of Schrider Road, passed away unexpectedly on July 9, 2010, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare, New Hartford.
Mr. Polczynski was born on August 13, 1937, at home, the youngest child of the late Anthony and Anna (Nebush) Polczynski. He graduated from Poland Central School in 1956. Augie purchased the family farm in 1959, carrying on the family tradition of working the land. Though he never married, his family was his cows that he took devoted care of, until he was forced to retire in 1998. Augie was a keen businessman who believed that making a dollar was just plain good business sense and, if he liked you, he was known to go out of his way to help you. But, most of all, people would say he was a “character”, with his quick humor and child-like expression of happiness. Even with his humor, he acknowledged he had made mistakes in his life and wanted people he cared for not make the same mistakes he did. His advice always was: get married, have a family and not work so hard that your body gets worn out like his did. In the past months, Uncle Augie acknowledged often that he had a family now, his niece, Tammy, and his dog, Boots. Mr. Polczynski was a member of St. John’s Church, Newport.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Kostyn, of New York Mills, and Victoria Zutter, of Whitesboro; one brother and four sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Barbara Polczynski, of Deerfield, Valeria Polczynski, of Poland, Nellie Polczynski, of New York Mills, and Irene Polczynski, of Herkimer; and several nieces and nephews, Michaelene, Edward, Jean, Teddy, Jr., Joe, Paul, Diane, Donald, Jr., Terry, Kelly and Tammy. He leaves behind close friends he loved to visit with, Anthony Arcuri, Jerry Cady, Jack Humpf and his nurse, Lori Scialdone. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by five brothers, Raymond, Carl, Thaddeus, Edward and Donald; a sister, Mary Ann Baran; and a niece, Sharon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John’s Church, Newport, on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Alfred A. Lamanna officiating. Interment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery, Newport. Calling hours at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, are Monday (today) from 6 to 8 p.m.
A special thank you is extended to Dr. Mark Slaga and Nurse Amie for their gentle kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to Health Friends of Oneida County, 126 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501, or a charity of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
