Carol (Acker) Miner, age 53, of 100 Main St., passed away peacefully on Monday June 29, 2009, at the home of her brother Michael and his wife Donna. She had the comfort of her family at her side.
She was born on Oct. 15, 1955, in Herkimer, a daughter of the late Frank and Shirley Lincourt Acker. An area resident, she graduated from Mohawk High School in 1974. She worked in the health care field as a nurse’s aide retiring in 1983 due to declining health.
She led a devoted Catholic life and was a parishioner of Annunciation Church, Ilion. Carol was a “people person.” If a need arose she was there, eager to help. She enjoyed volunteering for Meals on Wheels, Catholic Charities, as well as helping at London Towers. She had volunteered as a telephone coordinator for the Sara Wood Rescue Center and continued her support for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. She was artistic in many ways and had diverse interests, be it singing, cooking, reading, painting or doing puzzles she enjoyed them all. In the past she had sung with local choral groups and was most proud of being a part of the All State Choir. Life was to be enjoyed, it was her enthusiasm and contagious laugh that helped others through many of life’s ups and downs. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are four brothers, Frank Acker Jr. and his wife Elaine of Herkimer, Raymond Acker and his wife Nancy of Virginia, Michael Acker and his wife Donna of Richfield Springs, Nathan Acker of Ilion and his longtime companion Beth; two sisters, Cynthia Moore of Utica and Christine Kennedy and her husband Joseph of Ilion.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Edward, and two sisters, Nancy and Susan.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Fenner Funeral Home Inc., 115 Court Street, Herkimer. The Rev. Anthony Barratt, pastor of Annunciation Church, Ilion, will officiate.
The family will be present in the home to receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. (two hours prior to the funeral service). Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
