Mr. William F. Gallagher, Jr., Esq., 68, of 108 Henry St., passed away peacefully Saturday, February 27, 2010, in his home.

Bill was born in Oswego on April 20, 1941, the son of the late William and Mary McGrath Gallagher. He attended Oswego Schools and graduated from Oswego Catholic High School with the class of 1959. He later graduated from Colgate University with the class of 1963. He received his Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University Law School with the class of 1966 and was a partner of the law firm, Basloe, Basloe and Gallagher, Herkimer, for many years. Mr. Gallagher was later employed as the Regional Attorney for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Syracuse, until his retirement in October of 2007. He was a communicant of Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, and a member of the Herkimer Elks BPOE Lodge #1439, the Polish Community Home in Herkimer, the Herkimer County Bar Association and Delta Upsilon Fraternity. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved music and sports, especially Notre Dame Football.

William is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas and Lisa Gallagher, of Herkimer, Michael Gallagher, of Waterbury, VT, and Joseph and Maria Gallagher, of Herkimer; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Chris Sagaas of Albany; his cherished grandchildren, Caity Gallagher, Sean Gallagher, Nicole Gallagher, Matthew Gallagher and Daniel Gallagher; one brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Carol Gallagher, of Cheverly, MD; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret Gallagher and Pine Dubois, of Kingston, MA, Mary and Phil Holgado, of Williamson, Susan Gallagher and John Ryan, of Amherst; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his cousin and best friend, Robert Odin.

His funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM from the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home, 329 S. Washington St., Herkimer, and at 9:30 AM in Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Thomas Lawless, Pastor. Spring interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 4-8 at the Petykiewicz, Iocovozzi, & Burns Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Sts. Anthony and Joseph Church, S. Main St, Herkimer, NY 13350. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
