Marjorie W. Newman, 91, formerly of Main Street, died on July 1, 2009, at the Presbyterian Home, New Hartford, where she had resided since September of 2008.
Mrs. Newman was born on June 20, 1918, in West Rutland, Vt., a daughter of late Herbert and Bertha Wilcox. Marjorie received her early education in Rochester and graduated from Poland High School in 1937. On Oct. 11, 1938, she was united in marriage with Harry G. Newman in Poland. Marjorie assisted her husband in the operation of the former Newman Livestock Exchange, Newport, for many years. Harry preceded her in death on Feb. 9, 2002. She had served as a Cub Scout Den Leader and was a former mayor of Cold Brook. Mrs. Newman was a member of the Cold Brook United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons, David of Cold Brook, E. Herbert and his wife, Phillis of North Myrtle Beach, SC and William and his wife, Deborah of Cold Brook; one sister, Lois Burke of Cold Brook; two sisters-in-law, Marie Wilcox and Adaline Ryder both of Cold Brook; five grandchildren, Michael McAllister of Holland Patent, John Newman and his wife Dobrusia of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Christian Newman of the Czech Republic, Fernanda Newman of Bolivia and Heather Perretta and her husband Jim of Cold Brook; two great-grandchildren, Wade McAllister and Olivia Rose Perretta; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Marjorie was predeceased by her daughter, Jacqueline Kulmus on March 29, 1990; two brothers, Lloyd and Hubert Wilcox; and two sisters, Julia Lamb and Florence Crossman.
A graveside memorial service will take place at Poland Cemetery on Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 2 p.m. with Thomas G. Lorenz, Chaplain of the Presbyterian Home, officiating.
There are no public calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
