Marion (Byrnes) Bates, 98, of Herkimer, NY, and Lakeland, FL, died on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.

A native of Herkimer, Marion was the daughter of the late Henry and Julia Byrnes.

Marion was employed by the Herkimer Central School District as a teacher, then a principal, retiring after 43 years of service.

She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Bates; her sister, Alice Baldwin; and her brother, Richard Byrnes.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Joan Byrnes, of Guilderland, NY; her brother-in-law, Raymond Baldwin of Mohawk; her nieces, Kathleen (Alan) Fiero, of Voorheesville, and Lynda (Jim) Pelichowski, of Windsor, CO; and
her nephew, Daniel (Jennifer) Byrnes, of Glenmont, NY, and their children.

Marion’s Funeral Mass will be celebrated by the Very Reverend Mark Cunningham on Monday, March 4, 2013 at 10:00 am in St. Francis de Sales Church, Herkimer.
