POLAND — Irene L. Miller, 89, formerly of Main Street, died on May 2, 2008, at Valley Health Services, Herkimer.
Mrs. Miller was born in Wells on March 12, 1919, a daughter of the late Thomas and Lillian (Conway) Malumphy. In her junior year, her family moved to Poland where she graduated from Poland High School. She furthered her education at the Excelsior School of Business in Utica and was united in marriage with Bernard E. Miller in 1940. Mr. Miller preceded her in death on March 21, 1963. In her earlier years, she worked at the former Jamestown Veneer Mill, Poland, Newport Telephone Company and Poland Central School. Mrs. Miller was employed for many years as a Bank Teller in Poland for Citizens National, Oneida National and Fleet Banks. After retiring from Fleet, she worked as an assistant in the Town of Russia Clerk’s Office for 10 years. She resided at the Country Manor, Herkimer, for three years prior to entering Valley Health Services in 2007.
Irene was a member of the Community Baptist Church of Poland and the former Dorcas Circle. She was an active member of both the Kuyahoora and Singing Hills Senior Citizens. Mrs. Miller enjoyed the sport of bowling into her 80’s and was an avid card and Bingo player.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Bernard T. and Deborah Miller of Poland; one grandson, Michael Miller, of Poland; one niece, Dawn Drewnowski and her husband, Stanley, of Harvest, AL; and several nieces and nephews of the Miller Family. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Malumphy, in 2001.
Funeral services will be held at the Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Kirkpatrick, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Newport, officiating. Interment will follow in Poland Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Monday from 5 to 8 p.m.
