There is more to Civil War re-enactment than showing up in a period uniform. Re-enactors assembled at the German Flatts Town Park over the weekend to learn drills and commands, as well as the steps involved in firing a cannon. Re-enactors arrived Friday evening and began training Saturday morning with the event continuing through Sunday morning. The public was invited to watch the training and visit the garage sale tables set up in the park and buy a meal or snack from the Friends of the German Flatts Town Park. The Schooling of the Soldiers was the first of several events planned this year at the park. Cow Plop Bingo, a chicken barbecue and strawberry festival are scheduled for July 6, Polish Night with Tony’s Polka Band is set for Aug. 23 and Living History Weekend will be Sept. 27-29.
