After falling to Onondaga Community College in their first home match of the season, the Herkimer Generals bounced back with a 5-4 win of SUNY Delhi.
Herkimer (1-1) had solid performances from Corey Zoutman, Rob Murphy, Mike Carcione and Mike Marosek.
Zoutman, Murphy, Carcione and Marosek earned wins in their singles matches. Zoutman defeated Nick Reynolds in two sets (6-4, 7-5), Murphy defeated Alex Lum in two sets (6-1, 6-0), Carcione defeated Ed Hemp in three sets (7-6, 3-6, 6-1) and Marosek defeated Alejandro Ocasio in two sets (6-4, 6-0).
Because of their solid play, the Generals took four of the six singles matches.
Where the Generals might need some improvement, is in their double matches. Herkimer only won one of the three games. Helping the Generals to their deciding win was Murphy and Marosek. Both players defeated Lum and Ocasio 8-5 to give the team their first win of the season.
Herkimer’s next match is on Tuesday, April 6, 2010. The Generals will travel to Adirondack Community College. Match time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
