Little Falls broke the game open with a seven-run third inning and stayed unbeaten on the season with an 18-10 win over Ilion in a Center State Conference Division I baseball game Wednesday afternoon at Diss Field.
BASEBALL
The Mounties (6-0. 11-0) trailed 5-3 before they busted things open against Ilion starter Ryan Risi.
Dylan Blumberg and Patrick Shepardson got the inning started as both drew walks. Alex Chlus then followed with an RBI single and Nik Reff delivered a two-run single to give the Mounties a 6-5 lead. Evan Davis and Devin Manuzza added RBI singles in the inning and Ryan Dawley capped it with a two-run single.
Little Falls would add three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth to take an 18-5 lead before Ilion scored some runs late to make it respectable.
Little Falls had 17 hits on the day with Blumberg smacking an RBI triple in the first inning and scoring on a throwing error to give the Mounties an early 3-0 lead.
Ilion (1-3, 4-5) got a run back in the first on Risi’s sacrifice fly and then scored four times in the second.
Jake Murray reached on an error and Dan Colburn was hit by a pitch. Jeff Eysaman was walked to load the bases before Brett Leon’s fly ball to left was dropped allowing all three runners to score. Leon would then score on a Joe Gantz RBI single.
Colburn would later add a two-run single in the fifth and Mike Sparrin a two-run single in the sixth. Murray added a run-scoring single in the sixth to complete Ilion’s scoring.
Shepardson took over for starter Manuzza in the second inning and picked up the win. Risi took the loss for Ilion.

HERKIMER — John LeClair tossed a complete game and struck out 11 and the Mohicans broke the game open late to beat the Wildcats in a CSC Division I game played at Herkimer County Community College.
Up 6-3, the Mohicans (3-3, 6-5), winners of three straight, scored five times in the sixth inning highlighted by Cody Marquissee’s two-run triple to cruise to the win.
LeClair did not walk a batter and finished with a five-hitter for the Mohicans, who have scored 37 runs in three wins this week after scoring just one run total in their previous three games.
LeClair also had two hits and scored three runs. His younger brother Billy also had two hits as did Matt Moore. Jim Traglia scored three runs for the Mohicans, who travel to Frankfort-Schuyler Friday.
Nick Winters went four innings and took the loss for the Wildcats, who got a double and triple from Frankie Murphy.

HERKIMER — Gary Farquhar’s two-run single in the sixth inning broke a 1-1 tie and the Blue Devils went on to pick up their first league win beating the Magicians in a CSC game at Harmon Field.
James Normoyle led off the sixth for the Blue Devils (1-2, 3-3) with a single before Armond Viscome walked the next batter.
Farquhar then delivered to put his team on top.
Herkimer (1-4, 3-9) got a run back in the seventh on Peter Mackenzie’s solo homer, but could not push across the tying run.
Dolgeville had scored a run in the third on Mike Barnes’ RBI single and Herkimer tied it in the fifth on Anthony Viscome’s two-out RBI double.
Armond Viscome went the first 5 1/3 innings and took the loss and Mike Bointon finished with a three-hitter for the Blue Devils to pick up the win. Bointon struck out four and walked just one.
FRANKFORT 14

FRANKFORT — The Maroon Knights had their second comeback win in two days beating the Tri-Valley League’s Warriors in a non-league game.
Joe Gatto’s single up the middle scored Vinny Reina with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Frankfort (9-2) the win.
Frankfort had scored seven runs in the sixth inning to erase a five-run deficit and take a 13-11 lead. Clinton answered with two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game.
Reina then led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk off losing pitcher Tyler Heck and stole second. Jamie Barr was then hit by a pitch before Gatto singled sharply to center to score Reina.
Frankfort managed just seven hits in the game, but took advantage of 12 walks and three Clinton errors. Dylan Todd and Nick Laribee each had doubles for the Maroon Knights.
Joe Gatto picked up the win in relief for Frankfort.
Jeff Ostrander had four hits and Joe Durante three, including a double for Clinton (1-2, 2-4), which finished with 14 hits.
WEST CANADA 12
RICHFIELD 6
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — West Canada jumped to an early lead then scored four times in the sixth inning to seal a CSC Division III win over the Indians.
West Canada (2-2, 4-7) was up 6-0 after two innings before Richfield Springs chipped its way back to trail just 7-6 after five innings. The Indians big sixth then put the game away.
Austin Zacek pitched a complete game and also had four hits to lead West Canada to the victory. Zacek had two doubles and drove in three runs and Josh Sternberg and Alex Maxwell had to hits apiece for the winners. One of Sternberg’s hits was a double. West Canada finished with 12 hits compared to nine for Richfield.
Matt McMann had two hits including a triple and drove in three runs for Richfield (0-2, 2-4). Kyle Bridger took the loss for the home team.
