Center State Conference newcomer Holland Patent clinched the league’s Division II title with Tuesday’s 37-34 win over the Dolgeville Blue Devils.

Taking advantage of three Dolgeville forfeits, the Golden Knights (22-6, 5-0 CSC-II) won the dual despite losing seven of the 12 contested bouts. Dolgeville (10-7, 4-1 CSC-II), last year’s Division II champion while Holland Patent competing in the Tri-Valley League, lost a league dual for the first time since Jan. 11, 2011 against Little Falls.

Hunter Richard got Holland Patent started Tuesday by winning a decision at 113 pounds. Alex Herringshaw drew a forfeit at 126 pounds, Joe VanDreaser won a decision at 138 and Todd Stevens scored a major decision at 145.

Dolgeville’s first points came at 120 pounds when Ben Nastovski pinned Mason Herkel in the first period. Holland Patent took two of the next three bouts — Blue Devil 182-pounder Kasey Foster pinned Taylor Short in the second period — then Dolgeville forfeited at 220 and 285 pounds, netting Holland Patent a 37-25 lead, clinching a tie with two matches remaining.

Blue Devil Noah Handy was a 3-0 winner against Sam Olczyk at 99 pounds and teammate Daniel Fox pinned Andrew Stowell at 106. The wins left Dolgeville three points short in the final tally.
