Al Ferenti pithed one-run ball over six innings as Herkimer County Community College beat Schenectady Community College to salvage a split of a Region III baseball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon.

Ferenti’s effort was big as the Generals lost the opening game 14-11 to the Royals.
Ferenti allowed eight hits with two walks and nine strikeouts as he improved to 3-0 on the season.
HCCC (20-4, 26-8) erased a 1-0 deficit with a couple of runs in the third inning, the big hit being Ron Patterson’s RBI triple. Ryan Davidson then delievered a two-run double in the fourth for the Generals, who are currently ranked fourth in the country.
HCCC won despite managing just four hits in the second game, but did play good defense by not committing an error.
In the opening game, Schenectady handed HCCC’s Kris Barone his first loss of the season after four wins. T
The Royals jumped on Barone for four runs in the first inning, but HCCC manage to battle back to lead 7-4.
Schenectady then chased Barone in the fifth inning and knocked around three relievers as well as it eventually took a 14-7 lead and held on from there.
Chris Massar had his fifth home run of the year and Ty Folli also homered for the Generals, who outhit Schenectady 15 to 11 in the opening game.
