Winning pitcher Kat Gay drove in the eventual winning run on a fielder’s choice in the sixth inning as Ilion beat Herkimer 2-1 in a Center State Conference Division I softball game Monday afternoon.
The win moved Ilion veteran coach Pat Whalen within one of the 300 plateau for his career.
Gay’s RBI in the sixth inning came after Stephanie Lachacz singled and eventually made it to third on a Herkimer error.
Herkimer got a run back in the bottom of the sixth on Dana Pohlig’s base hit, but couldn’t push across the tying run as Gay got the final out in the seventh on a soft liner to shortstop Emily Woudenburg.
Gay allowed six hits and struck out six with just one walk.
Her team staked her to a 1-0 lead in the third on Lachacz’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Jackie Orcutt pitched very solid in a losing cause for the Magicians allowing just five hits with six strikeouts and just two walks.
Pohlig had two hits for the Magicians.
Erin Sweeney had a triple for Ilion.
The Golden Bombers will try to get their coach his 300th win Wednesday night when they host Little Falls at 7:00.

BOONVILLE — Ashley Zeigler tossed a four-hitter and struck out 12 as Adirondack beat the Mounties in a CSC Division I game.
Little Falls (3-3, 8-5) had three of its hits and scored all three of its runs in the sixth inning. Sue Schoff and Courtney Terzi both had RBI hits in the sixth and Lizzy Demeree a bunt single.
Zeigler walked just two batters while her counterpart Nickie VanMeter struck out five and walked two.
Elise Wieczerzak had two hits with an RBI for Adiriondack which led 5-0 before Little Falls got on the board.

NEWPORT — West Canada pitchers issued 29 walks as the Emerald Knights won a CSC Division III game.
Without injured regular pitcher Desiree Fauvelle, the Indians struggled as Alexa Dispirito, Brittany Milos and Rachel Dygert filled in.
Hamilton (4-2, 10-2) scored 13 times in the second inning and also had six-run innings in the fourth and sixth.
West Canada (1-3, 7-5) scored all its runs in the first inning.
Jen Cashmere had two hits for West Canada.

REMSEN — Erin Batson tossed a no-hitter and struck out 16 batters as the Tornadoes stayed unbeaten in the CSC’s Division IV by beating the Rams.
Batson was also the star offensively as she had three hits. Lexi Schreppel added a double for the Tornadoes (5-0, 7-5), who scored two times each in the first, second and sixth innings. Poland finished with 11 hits in the game.
Jamie Martineau took the loss for Remsen.

DOLGEVILLE — Juleah Vedder struck out 15 as the Blue Devils beat the Maroon Knights in a CSC Division I game.
Vedder also had three hits and drove in four runs for the Blue Devils.
Nicole Johnson added four hits with four runs scored and Cassie Gonyea had four hits with three runs and six RBI.
Francesca DeLuke had three hits with a double and Erica DeLuke two hits for the Maroon Knights.
Alyssa Percolla took the loss for the Maroon Knights.

WEST WINFIELD — Lindsay Hodges tossed a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts as the Marauders beat the Mustangs in a CSC Division II game.
Tracey Lynk had the only hit for the Mustangs and Sherburne was able to score two times each in four different innings to pick up the win.
Sherburne (4-1, 9-2) had nine hits with Hodges getting three of them with a homer and five RBI.
Karli Harris had two hits with a double and Jolene Mezza had a double.
