Mohawk took advantage of bases on balls to score 11 times in the first inning and went on to beat West Canada Valley 19-8 in a Center State Conference softball crossover game Tuesday afternoon.
A day after issuing 27 walks in a loss to Hamilton, West Canada pitchers issued 17 free passes to Mohican hitters.
Mohawk led 14-0 before West Canada (7-6) made things interesting with an eight-run fifth inning. Mackenzie Pickerd had the big hit in that inning for the Indians with a grand slam homer.
Pickerd finished with three hits on the day.
Mohawk finished with 12 hiuts with Alex Kryshchuk getting three of them and driving in three runs. Calli Wiggins added two hits for the Mohicans.
Kelly Herlehy picked up the win. She pitched the first four innings then gave way to Kryshchuk. Herlehy then returned when Kryshchuk ran into trouble in the fifth. That pair combined for seven walks and four strikeouts for the Mohicans (5-4).
