In the Section III Class B, C and D Wrestling Tournaments on Saturday, local wrestler’s from Herkimer, Little Falls, Mohawk, Ilion, Frankfort-Schuyler saw different results.
Little Falls’ Matthew Herringshaw won the Class D final when he decisioned Immaculate Heart’s Nicholas Koelmel 5-4.
Mohawk’s Gavin Goldsmith, Zach Hunt and Mike Barse won their Class C finals at 96 pounds, 152 pounds and 189 pounds. Goldsmith decisioned General Brown’s Ryan Snow 2-1. Hunt defeated Canastota’s Jeremy Brodfuhrer by injury default and Barse decisioned temmate Mike Judson 5-1.
And Ilion’s Laken Cook won the Class B final when he defeated Cazenovia’s Nick Petroff by technical decision.
After the five local champions, 16 other local wrestlers competed over the weekend. That included Herkimer’s Bobby Maida (Class C, second place, 119 pounds); Dolgeville’s Kaleb Smith (C, fourth, 145); Frankfort-Schuyler’s Joe Delconte (C, second, 130) and Matt Prentice (C, second, 135); Mt. Markham’s Kyle Crawford (C, second, 171), Tanner Christian (C, third, 103), Austin Weeks (C, fourth, 119), Dom McNamara (C, third, 171), Sean Noble (C, fourth, 130) and Kody Newman (C, fourth, 140); Mohawk’s Judson, Kyle LaBarge (C, third, 135) and Eric Ulinski (C, third, 160); and Ilion’s Keith Hacker (B, second, 125), Ryan Waite (B, second, 130), Jon Treen (B, second, 171) and Travis Streeter (B, third, 285).
Wrestling continues this Saturday at the Utica Auditorium. All qualifying local wrestlers will compete for a Section III Championship. Competition is expected to begin in the morning.
