SCHOLASTIC SOCCER: Schedule set for Columbus Day tourney in Poland

The schedule has been set for the Poland Tornadoes’ annual Columbus Day soccer tournaments which will feature play under the lights for the first time this year.

Play Saturday begins at noon in the Russia Town Park. The championship round is Sunday.

Holland Patent’s girls take on Frankfort-Schuyler in the opening match Saturday at noon. The Holland Patent boys meet DeRuyter at 2 p.m. Poland’s varsity teams play in the final two matches of the day with the girls squaring off against DeRuyter at 4 p.m. and the boys meeting West Canada Valley at 6 p.m.

A fireworks show will follow the completion of the final match Saturday as part of the Kuyahoora Valley Fall Festival. The festival runs 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday in  the park and includes a five-kilometer run, haunted house, local crafters, food and music.

The consolation matches begin Sunday at 10 a.m. for the girls and noon for the boys. The girls’ championship match is Saturday at 2 p.m. with the boys’ title contest following at 4 p.m.
