After beating North Country Community College 63-51 on their floor last week, the Herkimer Generals faced the Saints in a rematch at Jefferson Community College in the opening round of the Region III Championship Tournament on Friday.
Led by ‘Player of the Year’ Akeem Ellis, who had 17 points, seven rebounds and two assists, Herkimer County Community College beat the Saints (again within six days) 105-43 and moved to the next round where the Generals will face Hudson Valley today (2/27) at Jefferson Community College at 1 p.m.
Other contributors in the win were Rhamel Williams, Jerome Floyd, Cliff Brown and Reggie German. Williams had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Floyd had 10 points, Brown had 11 points and German had a season-high 10 points.
Helping the Generals to their 61-point win was the fact that as a team they shot 55 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point range. The last time Herkimer beat a team this badly was on Friday, January 1, 2010 when the Generals beat Schenectady Community College 94-49 (45-point win).
The last time Herkimer faced Hudson Valley Community College at their place, it took overtime to figure out the winner. The Generals came out victors 63-60.
When Hudson Valley faced Herkimer at their place, the Generals beat them 87-50.
