GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Redskins beat Mohicans in crossover

COOPERSTOWN 45, MOHAWK 28

The Cooperstown Redskins pulled away in the second half Monday and defeated the Mohawk Mohicans 45-28 in a Center State Conference crossover.

The Redskins (12-2), ranked 19th in the state in Class C, led 17-14 at halftime on their home court then outscored the Mohicans (7-7) 28-14 after the break. The margin was eight points before the Redskins held a 17-10 scoring edge in the final period.

Nicole Cring had a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and blocked five shots for Cooperstown. Sumer Murdock added nine points and eight rebounds while Lexi Bloomfield also scored nine points.

Nicole Landry and Lexy Johnson each scored six points to lead Mohawk.
Cooperstown also won the junior varsity game.

The Mohicans take on Herkimer Wednesday on their home court.

MT. MARKHAM 53, SAUQUOIT VALLEY 48

SAUQUOIT, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs outscored Sauquoit Valley by six points in the fourth quarter Monday and defeated the Indians 53-48.

Angela Bartlett hit four three-pointers and scored 18 points to lead the Mustangs (5-10) to the crossover win on the road. Brianne Scanlon added 11 points and Morgan Westbrook scored 10.

Alex Ben had 11 points and seven steals for Sauquoit Valley (5-11). Alyson Gaffney led the team with 12 points and Jessica Jecko grabbed 11 rebounds.

The Mustangs play at home Wednesday against Canastota.
