ILION CHRISTMAS TOURNAMENT

Another holiday on the school calendar afforded area schools an opportunity to make up the Ilion Christmas Tournament Monday and Whitesboro’s Warriors took home top honors — individual, as well as team — from the State Bowling Center.

Whitesboro had the top three individual series and and had three of the four highest team games to finish atop the six-team varsity field. Whitesboro also won the four-team junior varsity tournament.

The Warriors started strong. Their 1,077 first game was the highest of the day and gave them a 129-pin lead on New York Mills. They outpinned New York Mills by more than 100 pins again in the second game and finished with a three-game total of 2,997. New York Mills was second at 2,676, followed by Notre Dame of Utica, Ilion, Little Falls and Frankfort-Schuyler.

Josh Zaleski had the high individual series for Whitesboro, a 675, and his 246 was the second-highest game. Brandon Zaleski’s 267 was the high individual game and his 664 was the second-highest series. Bob Jones threw a 636 series to give Whitesboro a sweep of the top three. Cameron Christopher threw a 245 game for Notre Dame and took third in that category.

Whitesboro’s junior varsity squad was 250 pins better than runner-up Notre Dame. New York Mills finished third and Little Falls fourth. Notre Dame’s Jordan Leogrande had the high individual series (521) and game (219).

Ilion’s Jimmy Allen had games of 205, 202 and 202 and topped area competitors with his 609 series. Kyle Kozenewski’s 206 was Ilion’s high game and part of a 537 series. Dan Lennon bowled a 500 series with a high of 197.
