The Little Falls Mounties went back-and-forth with New York Mills Monday and the Marauders emerged as 3-2 winners on the road.
Little Falls was a 25-12 winner in the fourth game, the widest margin of the five, and forced a winner-take-all fifth game. New York Mills came back with its widest margin of victory and closed out a 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 12-25, 25-16 Center State Conference crossover win in each squad’s first match of the season.
Erin Noyes had 16 assists, two aces and a kill for Little Falls (0-1); Tess Krowicki had six kills, two aces and five digs; Kaleigh Warn had had five kills, a block, four aces, an assist and six digs; Kristen Hebert had five kills and three blocks; and Paige Horender had 19 digs, an ace, a kill and an assist.
Marissa Cavanaugh had 20 kills,a block, 16 digs and four aces for the Marauders (0-1); Jenna Hamblin had 18 assists, two kills, an ace and five digs; Sara Hamblin served six aces with five kills, an assist and 16 digs; Elaina Pacini had eight kills, a block, two aces and two digs; and Rachael Ellsworth had eight assists, eight digs, two aces and a kill.
In junior varsity play, Little Falls won in three games by scores of 25-21, 19-25 and 26-24. Winter Polnak had four kills and two aces for the junior varsity Mounties; Faith Randall had two kills, two aces and two assists; Brittany Levellie served three aces; Paige Morris had five digs and one kill; Tara Van Alstine had four digs, two aces and a kill; Lauren Shepardson had three assists, two aces and a kill; Christina Deschene had two aces and a kill; and Samantha Ackerman had two assists, an ace and a kill.
Little Falls is home again Wednesday for a game against Cooperstown. New York Mills takes on Oppenheim-Ephratah Wednesday on its home court.
OPPENHEIM-EPHRATAH 3, MOHAWK 1
MOHAWK, N.Y. — The Oppenheim-Epharatah Hawks dropped their first game on the road Monday but came back to beat Mohawk in four.
The Hawks were 16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-19 crossover winners as they earned their first victory of the season.
Leann Knapp served seven aces with three kills, two blocks and two digs for the Hawks (1-1); Ashley Hill had 14 assists, four aces, three digs and a kill; Shelby McCumber had five kills, one block and three 3 digs; and Mackenzie Ferguson had four aces and four digs.
Cassidy Babcock served nine aces for Mohawk (0-3) and had one assist; Noel Newkirk had five digs, two aces, two kills, one block and one assist; Megan Conner had three aces and two kills; and Amanda Dahl had two kills and a block.

FRANKFORT, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs were 3-1 winners on the road Monday over the Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights.
The Bulldogs were 25-9, 25-16, 16-25, 25-23 winners in the first match of the season for both squads.
Mindy Murdock served five aces for Frankfort-Schuyler (0-1) with six assists, seven digs and a kill; Alyssa Unsinn had 11 digs, three kills and an ace; Brittany Janis had four kills, three blocks an ace and a dig; and Brianna Manzo had eight digs, two kills and three assists.
Allison Brockway had 12 kills, 12 assists and two aces for Westmoreland (1-0); Jessica Harper had 10 assists and six kills; Gabby Duell served five aces with four digs; and Emily Gubbins had eight digs
The Maroon Knights play at home again Tuesday against Ilion.
WATERVILLE 3, HERKIMER 1
WATERVILLE, N.Y. — The Waterville Indians were 3-1 winners against Herkimer Monday as both Center State Conference squads opened their season.
The Indians emerged as 25-8, 22-25, 25-23, 25-9 winners at home after splitting the first two games with Herkimer (0-1).
Nichelle Kelley served 10 aces with 10 assists and four kills for Waterville (1-0); Alicia Barnes had eight kills, two blocks, four assists and three digs; Alexis Stetson had seven kills, 11 digs and an ace; and Miranda Stockbridge
had seven kills, five aces and seven digs.
Herkimer is home Friday for a match with Owen D. Young.
