After a slow start against the Thousand Island Vikings in Saturday’s C-1 semifinal, Westmoreland, led by Dan DeCarlo and Jason Colburn, outscored their opponent by two points into the half (26-to-24) and by 14 (32-to-18) in the second half on their way to a 58-42 victory at Cicero North Syracuse (CNS) High School.

Westmoreland (17-3) only had two players score in double figures, DeCarlo and Colburn. Combined, the two seniors scored 35 of Westmoreland’s 58 points. DeCarlo finished with 17 and Colburn finished with a game-high 18.

Other contributors for the Bulldogs were Ryan Mathis, Travis Rogers, Will Cotter, Dan Smith and Ted Flint. Mathis had four points, Rogers had five points, Cotter had two points, Smith had eight points and Flint had points.

As for the Thousand Islands, the Vikings had stellar games from Waterman (14 points) and Hanrahan (16 points), but after those two, the rest of the team only scored 12 points.

A big credit to that could be Westmoreland’s defense, which is very big and athletic. Westmoreland puts a lot of different looks at their opponent on defense. From zone to man-to-man, Westmoreland matches up very well with most of their teams.

Westmoreland, with the win, faces Tully in the C-1 Finals at the Utica Auditorium on Friday. The Black Knights will play the Bulldogs at 6 p.m.
