Immaculate Heart (19-1) was led by Connor Caldwell and Brian Magovney in the 22-point win. Caldwell, a junior guard, scored a game-high 30 points and hurt Mohawk (16-4) from everywhere on the floor. Whether it was grabbing a rebound and going coast-to-coast for a contested layup, or controlling the offensive and defensive glass, Caldwell gave the Cavaliers an inside presence the Mohicans couldn’t contain.
On the outside, Immaculate Hearts’ Brian Magovney hit a game-high six three-point field goals which allowed the senior to score 18 points. As a team, the Cavaliers made 12 three-pointers.
With Immaculate Heart flexing their muscles on the hard wood from the inside and outside, it gave Mohawk a very difficult task of trying to keep up.
Trying to keep up with the Immaculate Heart was Winston Smithson, Corbin Woodruff and Joe Smith. Each player scored in double digits, with Smithson leading the way with 13 (Woodruff scored 10 points and Smith scored 11 points).
After Mohawk’s top three, Mike Carroll scored four points, Dillon Hassett scored three points and Carson Murphy scored nine points.
With the win, Immaculate Heart moves on to the C-2 finals. The C-2 finals will be played at the Utica Auditorium on Friday, March 5, 2010. The Cavaliers will take on the #1 seeded West Canada Valley Indians. The C-2 final is scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m.
