Herkimer stays unbeaten

Alyssa Napolitano had a pair of RBI doubles including one that put her team ahead for good in the fifth inning as Herkimer stayed unbeaten with a 9-6 win over Utica Craska 9-6 in a U16 Girls Softball League game Thursday night.
Napolitano’s second RBI double gave Herkimer a 7-6 lead then it added a pair of insurance runs an inning later and held on for the win.
The game was a see-saw affair as both teams led on a couple of occasions.
Utica came out of the gates quickly scoring twice in the top of the first for a 2-0 lead. Herkimer answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning as Emily Stalteri and Shauna Mills each had RBI singles and Napolitano followed with her first RBI double.
After Herkimer (3-0) scored a couple more runs in the third to go up 5-2, Utica posted a four spot in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. Herkimer then responded again in its half of the inning with Napolitano getting the big hit.
Jackie Orcutt picked up her first win of the season tossing a six-hitter with three walks and five strikeouts. Orcutt also had a couple of hits and scored a run. Rachel Waseleski scored three times for Herkimer and Stalteri had two hits with a double and three RBI. Mills had two hits and two runs scored.
