Two-out hits spark Little Falls to win

Little Falls broke the game open early as it beat Mohawk 11-8 in a Center State Conference Division I baseball game Thursday night at Veterans Park.
The Mounties scored five times in the second inning to take an early lead then traded runs with the Mohicans the rest of the way. All five of Little Falls’ runs in the second came with two outs as they got five consecutive hits.
Mohawk (3-4, 6-6) tried to get back in the game scoring two in the fourth, two in the fifth and four in the sixth, but it was too late as Little Falls had an answer.
The Mounties (4-4, 8-7) added a pair of runs in the fourth and three in the fifth and finished with 11 hits on the day.
Patrick Shepardson had two hits and scored two runs while Ryan Dawley and Dylan Blumberg each had two hits and two RBI. Dylan Hysack also had two hits and scored a pair of runs.
Dawley went the first five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. Shepardson came on to strike out four Mohicans over the final two innings and pick up the save.
Mohawk had three doubles in the game with losing pitcher Andy Conklin picking up two of them. Dillon Hassett had the other double for Mohawk, which had won two straight heading into Thursday night’s game.
ILION 4
LITTLE FALLS
ILION — Jeff Eysaman’s bases-loaded walk in the eighth inning scored the winning run as the Golden Bombers picked up their first league win by beating the Mounties in a CSC Division I game Wednesday night.
It also capped a rally for Ilion (1-7, 3-9) which needed to score a run in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it to extra innings.
Ilion’s eighth started as Dan Crim reached on an error. Ryan Risi then turned a sacrifice bunt attempt into a single and Anthony Sansone walked against Little Falls reliever Devin Manuzza to load the bases. Manuzza then proceed to walk Eysaman to end the game.
Mike McAvaney’s third RBI of the night, a single to score Brett Leon, tied the game in the seventh for Ilion. Leon had singled with two outs and stole second.
McAvaney also had a two-run single in the fourth inning when Ilion trailed 3-0.
Joe Gantz went the distance to pick up the win for Ilion. He tossed a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and 13 walks.
Ilion had just four hits of its own.
