ILION 52, HERKIMER 42

The Ilion Golden Bombers rode a 37-point second half to a 52-42 win on the road Thursday over the Herkimer Magicians.

The Golden Bombers led 15-13 at halftime before scoring 16 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth. Ilion had trailed at the end of the first quarter but took the lead by scoring the first nine points of the second. Emily LaLonde had back-to-back baskets off offensive rebounds in the third quarter to give the Golden Bombers (2-0) their largest lead at 28-14.

Herkimer (0-3) had the lead down to five points in the middle of the fourth quarter before Nicole Doolen put back a rebound for a basket and added a free throw for Ilion.

Mackenzie Stubley shot 8-for-8 at the foul line and scored eight of her 12 points in the fourth quarter for Ilion. LaLonde led the team with 13 points. Doolen finished with 10 points and Lauren Metz added nine on three three-pointers.

Maxine Grogan scored 15 points, all in the second half, to lead Herkimer; she also had four steals. Hannah DeLude had nine of her 13 points after halftime and added nine rebounds, six steals and four assists. Chelsea Jory chipped in with six points and seven rebounds.

Ilion was a two-point winner in junior varsity play.

The Golden Bombers play again Saturday afternoon at Frankfort-Schuyler. Herkimer travels to Sauquoit Valley Monday.

RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. — The Richfield Springs Indians defeated Sharon Springs in their opening game Thursday and earned a spot in the Richfield Springs Sports Booster Club’s tournament.

Richfield Springs (1-0) plays Saturday at 8 p.m. against the winner of Friday’s game between Cherry Valley-Springfield and Edmeston.

Vanessa Miller and Kaity Richvalsky led the Indians with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Richvalsky also had seven steals.

Marganne Entiolezo, Kara VanDresdal and Renee Handy each scored five points for Sharon Springs (0-2) which was outscored in each quarter.
