Completing their season exactly the way they wanted too, the Herkimer County Community College Generals beat Mohawk Valley Community College on Sunday 82-71 at Jefferson Community College to earn the 2010 NJCAA Region 3 Division III Men’s Championship.

Helping the Generals (28-2) to their 10-point win was mixture of eight players who contributed all season for Head Coach Matt Lee.

Leading the way was Akeem Ellis. Ellis finished his last game as a General with 21 points, nine rebounds and two assists. Ellis, the leader of the Generals and ‘Player of the Year’, wasn’t the only one who gave the Hawks trouble on the court.

After Ellis, Jerome Floyd and Cliff Brown also scored in double figures. Floyd finished with 13 points, two assists and four steals, while Brown finished with 18 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Rounding out the rest of the attack for Herkimer was Matt Baldwin, Steven Thompson, Rhamel Williams, Reggie German and Ian Austin-Michaud. As a group, these five players combined for 29 of the 72 points, with Williams and Baldwin leading the way with nine points and eight points respectively.

For Mohawk Valley, the Hawks had three players come within a few points of double figures in their finals loss to the Generals. Jerome Davis scored eight points, Bradley Griffin scored nine points and Jonathan Douglas scored nine points.

After their tope three, Eric Simpson scored six, Anthony Johnson scored four, Alex Rhubart scored five and Theo Smith scored two.

The Generals will now move on to the National Championship after winning their Regional/District Championship. The National Championship for D-III will be played at SUNY Delhi, with the Tournament starting on Thursday, March 11, 2010.
